The thread used at the beginning is a thick linen. Bockens 35/2 would be a good substitute for the first 6 patterns. Other patterns use a Perle No 8 or a Linen 60/2. The book starts with patterns that use 6 or 8 Bobbins increasing as you progress through the book to 42 pairs of bobbins.
