Description
Introducing Traditional Bedfordshire Lace in 20 lessons by Barbara Underwood. Barbara Underwood was for many years the main lace Tutor at Knuston Hall, in Northampton-shire.
Traditional Bedfordshire Lace, with its wonderful designs for flowers, leaf sprays and grounds. A lace which draws many of its techniques from Point Ground Lace and Honiton Lace. This book is intended for those who have a basic knowledge of lace-making techniques.
By working systematically through the patterns, the Lace-maker will acquire a real understanding of the lace. Develop the ability to recognise and work the components of more complicated patterns.
The first few pages give you technical information for working Bedfordshire Lace with its unique but traditional feel.
Each stage is carefully structured with interesting patterns. Each pattern leads the lace-maker from one technique to another. It starts with edgings and insertions all carefully explained and with clear diagrams.
Progression is then made to the various ways of working leaves and flowers that make up some very attractive designs.
At the end of the book it has some very interesting and attractive bookmarks and mats. All patterns have working diagrams.
The last few pages contain the pattern prickings. The threads used are Madeira Tanne, this thread is no longer available but can be substituted by Madeira Cotona. The beginning patterns use a No 30 and progress through No 50’s to the finer No 80’s.
The patterns at the beginning only use 8 pairs of bobbins but as the work progresses so do the number of Bobbins used – up to 68 pairs.
