Description
Isham samples and other Linen edgings written by Gillian Dye, an authority on the early laces produced in the United Kingdom.
After much study of such early laces that survive in our museums. Gillian has written these books from the mindset of the early Lacemakers. Where many of their techniques differ from those of today. Also their use of pins is limited, compared to those used today.
This books starts with reconstructions of 5 samples of narrow lace that are to be found in the Northampton-shire County Records Office. The first 2 pages gives examples of Techniques and Terminology.
From these 5 early patterns Gillian goes on to examine other lace of the same period held in various museums. Tried with her knowledge of early lace to reconstruct them. The end 3 pages of the book have working diagrams for the Lace maker to have a go at making these early laces.
She also gives some useful advice to those want to make lace for re-enactments.
